Woolton Diamonds Boys Under 12 Football Team

Woolton Diamonds started playing matches in 2005 & will be competing at under 12 level from September 2009. They had two fantastic seasons at under 9 and under 10 levels losing just two matches in normal time (and a penalty shoot out in a cup final) in two seasons in nine separate competitions. They won six of the nine major competitions they played in during this period and finished as runners up in the other three. They compete in the Merseyside & Halewood Junior Football League (M&HJFL) and won their division at under 10 level without losing a match. They progressed from mini soccer to 11 a side soccer with effect from September 2008 and have adapted well to the new format and additional playing time (two halves of 30 minutes each). Diamonds had another great season at under 11 level and finished as runners up in the M&HJFL losing just two league matches to the eventual champions AFC Liverpool who also went on to win the Liverpool Champions League. Diamonds also finished as runners up in the Halewood Summer League, behind AFC again, and lost 2-1 in the final of the Halewood Summer League Cup (AFC again) which was played at the LFC Academy. Diamonds enjoyed a fantastic trip to the south of France in May 2009 where they finished 5th in a high quality tournament and were presented with the fair play award by their hosts (see France pages for details) and they put on an excellent display to win the Liam Costello Woolton Tournament at the end of that month. Although Diamonds were not as successful last season in terms of trophies their development was probably better than previous seasons due in part to the high quality of the opposition provided by AFC the eventual Liverpool Champions League winners. The competition is expected to be even greater in the coming season with the Champions League runners up Crosby Stuart (Bootle) apparently joining the M&HJFL. In addition there will be other teams striving to reach the standards set by the top teams and Diamonds are looking forward to testing themselves at the high level required. The management team of Mark King and Paul Burke, who each have a son in the team, will be expecting the lads to maintain the high standards that they have set for themselves and will be anticipating that they will make a concerted challenge for the league title and will also be hoping for a good run in the cup in the 2009/10 season. It will be interesting to see how Diamonds fare playing against the Champions League winners and runners up and also how other teams will compete. The certainty is that the league will be very competitive which can only be good for the development and progression of the teams and individual players.

Woolton Diamonds are members of Woolton Football Club, an F A Charter Standard Development Club which is based at Camp Hill, Woolton in Liverpool. There are 40+ teams from the ages of 7 to 19 that operate from the club and there are three other teams in Woolton Diamonds age group: Gold, Vinci and Wanderers. There is also coaching provided for under 7's each Saturday morning, together with the other age groups, at the Camp Hill grounds. The club has an an open door policy and welcomes anyone, within the age groups, to join in the training sessions.
